This morning, both Warthog and I woke up “early”. We were ready to go around 7a… sort of. I still asked for a few more minutes of sleep. A hot, delicious breakfast waited for me, so I didn’t linger long.
Devil’s Backbone offers a hiker breakfast for $5. It includes two eggs, potatoes, fruit, meat, biscuits or toast, and coffee. We ordered that, plus a waffle. They didn’t have any chocolate croissants left or we would have gotten one of those too. Even more hiker friendly, they allowed us to take a piece of DB swag. I got cards and Warthog got a hat.
After breakfast, we sat around the outdoor patio playing cards and visiting with other hikers. Our plan was to take a zero here and rest, allowing Snow Monkey, Wonder Woman, and Kirby to catch up. Around lunch we headed back to the campsite which now consisted only of our three tents. Atlas and Warthog went back to the gas station and brought us snacks. We stayed there until early evening and headed back to the brewery for a bit. Honestly, all of the people there and the noise that came with them was starting to get a bit overwhelming. We didn’t stay too long before we went back to the site. Around 9p we got some ice cream and finally called it a night. We slept under the full moon, rainfly off with the intention to be able to enjoy the stars.
Today has been a wonderful break – a zero without any errands (except the bucket bath that Warthog and I took when we had privacy). I got some work done, but honestly, my body was so tired I needed to just relax. Today I got to do just that.
