We woke up to miserable weather. I kind of expected it. Warthog asked, “When do you want to leave?” I answered honestly, “Tomorrow morning.”
After much deliberation, the group decided to stay another day. Most of our stuff is still wet and the weather is supposed to turn bad again mid afternoon. They are forecasting another inch or two of rain. The miles call to us, but not at the risk of hypothermia. If it were warmer, maybe. But it’s cold. To be honest, it’s not really hypothermia cold. But no one wanted to go out.
We spent two hours downloading a movie on our Amazon Video app. We chose Captain Fantastic. Then the group all went into the shelter, huddled together and had a movie afternoon. People coming up to the shelter were at first confused, then shocked, and then some joined in. No one expects a movie in the middle of the woods.
We stayed huddled after the movie, talking, trying to get up the courage to go back to our tents. Finally, responsibility won out and we retreated. We spent the afternoon catching up on journal entries, napping, drying out clothes, and trying to stay warm.
It wasn’t much of a day. I sort of wished we had made progress, but I’m sure glad that I got to stay warm and dry. So overall, I’m happy with our decision to zero. The miles will be walked. I don’t doubt it.
